Year ends with above-average rainfall

New Year’s Day 2019 wasn’t exactly balmy, with temperatures in the low 30s for most of the day and freezing drizzle on Wednesday, but it wasn’t the extreme of one year ago, when the mercury dipped down into the single digits on both New Year’s Eve and the next night, Jan. 1, 2018.

MISD adds holiday Feb. 1

Trustees for the Moran Independent School District added a student holiday to the 2019 spring semester during their regular board meeting on Dec. 17. Because of the change, MISD will not have classes on Friday, Feb. 1.

Local residents who want to run for city council, hospital district, or school board positions in the Saturday, May 4 election may begin filing the required paperwork on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Filing closes a month later on Friday, Feb. 15 at 5:00 p.m. There is no filing fee.
