Albany High senior Jillian Guinn and Moran ISD senior Curry Pendleton were awarded 2019 DAR Good Citizen awards by the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at a ceremony at the Lord’s Old Time Gospel Church in Breckenridge last Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Four area high schools were each invited to submit the name of one member of their senior class to Lee’s Legion for the honor. The student should be one who has demonstrated the good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in his or her home, school, and community.

Along with Shackelford County winners Guinn and Pendleton, Kelton Wylie from Breckenridge ISD and Clint Petree from Cisco High School were honored at the annual DAR Good Citizen award presentation.

“Parents, grandparents, principals, and DAR members were on hand as these students read their excellent essays entitled ‘What New Challenges Will America Face As We Move Forward Into The Future?’,” said DAR member Judy Wolfe. “The winners were presented with certificates, money, and DAR pins.”

The DAR is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization whose members work to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism in their communities.
