Albany News

Albany High School’s annual Winter Formal will be held this Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Whitney Theatre, from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12 individually prior to the event and $15 each at the door. Bottled water and cookies will be available at the dance.

The Winter Formal is sponsored each year by members of the Albany High School student council, and at least one class officer from each class has tickets for sale.

Music is provided by local disc jockey Angel Pacanins.

Student council sponsor Donnie Lucas reminded participants that the formal is not a come-and-go event and is restricted to AHS students, faculty members, and chaperones.

“If students leave, they will not be readmitted,” Lucas said. “And the event is for high school students only.”

Out-of-town guests are limited to high school students of good standing who may only attend if he/she is a high school student, and is invited as the guest of an AHS student.

“If you plan to bring a student from another school, you must get a letter from the school they attend stating they are in good standing,” said principal Edward Morales. “We must have the letter or email in the office before Friday.”

The Feed Store will host an “after the dance” event this year, starting at the local youth facility at 10:00 p.m. Breakfast foods will be served, ending at 12:00 midnight.

Winter Formal Court

Three boy and three girl nominees have been selected for the Winter Formal Court for each class, according to Lucas.

Freshmen through juniors are nominated for Winter Formal Prince and Princess by their individual classes.

In addition, there are also three boys and three girls, all seniors, nominated for Mr. and Miss AHS. The entire student body votes to select the honorees.

The two chosen seniors are named Mr. and Miss AHS with the finalists from the other classes designated as Winter Formal princes and princesses.

The presentation of the court and announcement of the winners will take place at the Winter Formal at 9:00 p.m., according to Lucas.

Candidates selected to run for Mr. AHS are Cameron Dacus, Payne Hebel, and Ryan Hill.

Vying for Miss AHS are Jillian Guinn, Caroline Masters, and Haley Stewart.

Representing the junior class are prince nominees Tyler Beard, Seth Hale, and Ben West, as well as princess candidates Carley Green, Gracie LeMay, and Taylor Scott.

The sophomore class prince choices are Jackson Chapman, Everett McWhorter, and Ryder Wilkins. Nominated for Winter Formal sophomore princess were Torie Fuentes, Alli Hill, and Hannah Trail.

The freshman selected Monte Cauble, Malachi Gueldner, and Brooks Neece to run for prince, and Ana Balliew, Ansleigh Garcia, and Caitlan Lee to compete for class princess.
