Lions Roar staff wins 19th straight Star Award

The staff of the Lions Roar, the student newspaper forAlbany High School, won a 19th consecutive Star Award, as well as a record four Tops in Texas Awards during the annual Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) in Austin last weekend. The newspaper was awarded a Silver Star as an overall evaluation of the publication, in a contest that includes other school papersrangingfrommiddle school to Class 6A.

Car show planned April 20

♦ The 17th annual Albany Classic Car Show is revved up and ready to go in downtown Albany on Saturday, April 20, with the public urged to come see dozens of vintage cars and trucks from around the Big Country. Organizer Robert Snyder said activities will actually begin on Friday, April 19 with a hamburger supper starting about 5:15 p.m.

Fandangle Sampler set Saturday

♦ Members of the Fort Griffin Fandangle Association will still be treated to a preview or sampler of the 2024 summer show on Saturday but not at Collins Creek Ranch as originally planned. Because of the likelihood of rain on Saturday, artistic director Lorna Ayers said Wednesday morning that the show will be staged indoors at the Whitney Theatre.

The second week in April is traditionally designated as National Public SafetyTelecommunicators Week and this week, April 14-19 local dispatchers are being recognized for the work they do behind the scenes of public safety. Many people don’t realize the training and discipline necessary to become a public safety dispatcher, according to Shackelford County sheriff Ed Miller.
