Kolby Wayne Hughes, son of Gary and Emily Hughes of Albany, Texas and Melinda and Delbert Smith of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on October 4, 2025.
Kolby was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 1, 1997, graduated from Springtown High School and was employed by Amazon for the past 10 years. Kolby was known for his sense of humor, willingness to help, and his smile.
The Albany High School Ragin’ Red Band returned from the Seymour Band Festival on Oct. 4 with a first division rating from all five judges, a milestone band director Jessica Watkins praised as a testament to the students’ focus and adaptability.

The Albany Mainstreet Playhouse will open its 2025–2026 performance season this Saturday, October 11, with its annual Cabaret fundraiser at the Whitney Theatre, which has officially sold out.
The event, which serves as the group’s primary fundraiser, will feature a World War II-era dance hall theme and include performances by a lineup of returning vocalists. Dinner will be provided by Goodnight Steakhouse.
