Cabaret opens AMP season Saturday

The Albany Mainstreet Playhouse will open its 2025–2026 performance season this Saturday, October 11, with its annual Cabaret fundraiser at the Whitney Theatre, which has officially sold out.

The event, which serves as the group’s primary fundraiser, will feature a World War II-era dance hall theme and include performances by a lineup of returning vocalists. Dinner will be provided by Goodnight Steakhouse.

This year’s cast includes Kirstin Hilliard, Ginny Ivy, Megan Ledbetter, Lorna Ayers, Cali Rose, Keren Liming, Pam Davis, and Sandy Abel. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with the performance to follow. Organizers said the show received an enthusiastic response and sold out quickly.

The production marks the beginning of the group’s first full season as an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible, and funds raised will support upcoming shows and general operations.

Season schedule

Following the Cabaret, AMP will present a new event, Talking Tombstones, on Saturday, October 25, at the Albany Cemetery. The guided tour will bring history to life with local actors in era-appropriate clothing and stories drawn from the community’s past. Two tours will be offered, one at 5:30 p.m. and another at 8:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear walking shoes. Those who prefer a daylight tour—especially families with young children—are advised to attend the earlier time, as the cemetery will be dark during the later tour.

In February, AMP will bring back God’s Favorite, a Neil Simon play based loosely on the biblical story of Job. The production is scheduled for February 6–8 at the Aztec Theater.

The season will conclude August 21–23 with the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Organizers said the show is appropriate for all ages.

Donations

Founded in 1999, Albany Mainstreet Playhouse operates independently with volunteer leadership and relies on local donations to produce its shows. Donations may be mailed to AMP, P.O. Box 2114, Albany, TX 76430.
