County fire dept. starts fundraising campaign
The Shackelford County Rural Volunteer Fire Department is soliciting donations to help cover operating costs for the department. A fundraising letter was recently mailed out seeking donations to help buy supplies, equipment and provide upkeep on equipment as well as help finance the department’s efforts to keep properties inShackelfordCountysafe from unwelcome fires and disasters.
Spots open for Milky Way camp
Fort Griffin State Historic Site is still accepting participants for its Milky Way Photography Workshop summer camp. The workshop is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, June 7-8.

Pick-up dates for the June distribution of the commodity food program provided by Shackelford County are June 6-7. Certified eligible families in Moran should pick up their monthly commodity food at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Donations needed for Day Camp
The registration period for the annual summer Day Camp, sponsored by ResourceCare has ended as of June 3, and organizers are busy making plans for the camp, which will runtheweeksofJuly15-19 and July 22-26.
Grease Worms raise funds for camp
A team of three Albany residents will be on the road again to Luckenbach and a host of other European Texas destinations this week as they have a little fun and at the same time raise money for Buffalo Gap’s Camp Able, a mission to cultivate healthy, independent living for peope with special needs through skillsbased training and equine therapy. Along with two dozen or more other teams, the Albany group will start out on their 48-hour Buffalo RunAdventure about 6:00 p.m.
Quilts needed for Fandangle display
Entriesarebeingsought for the annual Quilt Show hostedbytheAlbanyStudy Club and will be displayed at the Whitney Theatre on Fandangle performance days. Quilts on loan for the show should be taken to the Shackelford County Library during business hours.
150 King, Queen to be presented at parade
The Shackelford 150 committee is accepting nominations for a king andqueentobepresented on a float in the annual Fandangle Parade on Saturday, June 22 in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the county in 1874.
