Moran ISD concluded its 2023-24 school year Friday, May 24 with graduation at Cisco College. TheRalphSnyderMemorial Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded to valedictorian Terra Thompson, with Neveah Huskey receiving the Maurice Snyder Memorial Scholarship ($750), Caleb York receiving the Sam Snyder Scholarship ($500),andZechHenderson receiving the Mary Anna Snyder Scholarship ($500).

Notices of appraised value will be mailed at the end of this week or the beginning of next for the 2024 tax year, with overall property values continuing to rise. Property owners should receive their notices by mid-June, depending on mail service, and anyone who wishes to dispute the value of a property can file a protest by the June 30 deadline.

June 3 is the deadline this year to register for the Big Country Fellowship of Athletes Summer Camp. The annual camp will run Monday through Friday, June 17 -21 at Hardin Simmons University.

New exhibitions will open at the Old Jail Art Center with an opening celebration for OJAC members and guests on Saturday, June 8. The two special exhibits can be viewed by the public throughout the summer.

Pick-up dates for the June distribution of the commodity food program provided by Shackelford County are June 6-7. Certified eligible families in Moran should pick up their monthly commodity food at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Although the regular school year ended last week for the summer, some Albany ISD students will be returning for three weeks of summer school starting Monday, June 3. Summer school classes will be held from 8:00 a.m.

Fort Griffin State Historic Site kicks off its summer schedule Saturday, June 1 by featuring one of the site’s main attractions. The site will host Longhorn Intelligence – Campfire Stories and Cattle Handling Demonstration from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

A total of 44 members from the Albany High School Class of 2024 took part in the Project Graduation party, with most staying until the end of the all-night event. The party began at 10:30 p.m.

Tickets continue to sell fast for the first night of a two-night run featuring Pat Green on June 7 and 8 at theAztec Theater. Seats for the second performance on Saturday, June 8 have already sold out.
