♦ The 17th annual Albany Classic Car Show is revved up and ready to go in downtown Albany on Saturday, April 20, with the public urged to come see dozens of vintage cars and trucks from around the Big Country. Organizer Robert Snyder said activities will actually begin on Friday, April 19 with a hamburger supper starting about 5:15 p.m.

Tickets are still available for the next concert in the Albany Live series featuring James McMurtry on Friday, April 19 at the Aztec Theater. “Tickets are still available for the McMurtry concert,” said Albany Live’s director of community relations Megaen Birdwell.

♦ Members of the Fort Griffin Fandangle Association will still be treated to a preview or sampler of the 2024 summer show on Saturday but not at Collins Creek Ranch as originally planned. Because of the likelihood of rain on Saturday, artistic director Lorna Ayers said Wednesday morning that the show will be staged indoors at the Whitney Theatre.

TheAlbanyLionstennis team got its final tuneup before the district tournament Thursday, April 11 with a partial lineup competinginaround-robin format held by Abilene Christian at Rose Park Tennis Center. Albany will return to Rose Park Monday-Tuesday, April 22-23 for the District 10-2A tournament.

Albany Junior High tennis players conducted their first practice session Friday, April 12 after the conclusion of the track and field season. Coach M.J.

Albany’s Kiana Roberson and Braylyn Abbate have been named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-Stategirlsbasketballteam. Roberson earned firstteam honors with Abbate named to the second team.

A ladies conference is planned for April 27, according to Cynthia Tollett, pastor at Apostolic Gospel in Moran. “All women are invited to a morning of fellowship,” Tollett said.

Moran FFA stayed busy last week with events in Stephenville,Lubbock,and Wichita Falls. On Wednesday, April 10, veterinary science and horse judging teams competed attheAreaIVcontest at Tarleton State.

The Moran athletic year is down to tennis this spring as three boys players are preparing for the upcoming District 13-1A tournament. Singles player Chase Murk and doubles partners Caleb York and Ellis Hise will compete Thursday, April 18 in the Santa Anna tournament, which will be played in Early and Brownwood.
