The National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday, May 2 with the mission to mobilize prayer in America. The Albany Ministerial Alliancehasorganizedlocal observances in the past, but has not yet announced plans for this year’s event.

Kalison Oliver, a sixth grader at Nancy Smith Elementary, has been selected to attend the Texas Ballet Theater Summer Intensive, a three-week advanced program for dancers who auditioned and then were chosen to participate.

The PTO assisted the school district with decorating new walls that had to be replaced in the library due to a major roof leak almost a year ago.

Lions Roar staff wins 19th straight Star Award

The staff of the Lions Roar, the student newspaper forAlbany High School, won a 19th consecutive Star Award, as well as a record four Tops in Texas Awards during the annual Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) in Austin last weekend. The newspaper was awarded a Silver Star as an overall evaluation of the publication, in a contest that includes other school papersrangingfrommiddle school to Class 6A.

100 attend Chamber Boil

About 100 old and new members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a shrimp boil and fish fry last Thursday, with directors and other volunteers cooking up mounds of food. “I think it was a big hit again this year even if we didn’t have any crawfish,” Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said.
