100 attend Chamber Boil

About 100 old and new members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a shrimp boil and fish fry last Thursday, with directors and other volunteers cooking up mounds of food.

“I think it was a big hit again this year even if we didn’t have any crawfish,” Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said. “We had a lot of people show upandhadplentyoffood.”

Onehundredpoundsof live crawfish was ordered for the feast, but wasn’t delivered in time.

“We got a call the next morningthatthecrawfish had arrived,” she said. “They understood that our event was over and refunded the money.”

TheChambermanager added that people were not upset by the lastminute change in menu from crawfish to shrimp.

“There was plenty of food, and people were happy,” she said. “Only a few missed the crawfish, but they weren’t upset.”

Lehew said she received several new memberships, along with a number of renewals before and during the an-nual event.

“We had several people who are new to town, as well as a lot of renewals,” the manager said. “It was a successful event, I think.”

She reported that volunteers cooked up shrimp along with the traditional Cajun boil vegetables and sausage in the spicy brine mixture, while others fried upcatfishandFrenchfries. Those attending had several side dishes to choose from including cole slaw and hush puppies, along with onion rings provided by the Happy Grill.

Lemonade and iced tea wereprovidedbytheGreen Gypsy beverage trailer, with the Icehouse donating the condiments.

Toni’s Home Cooking supplied cake bites for dessert.

“We have a long list of peoplewhovolunteeredto helpcookorserve,”Lehew said. “We thank everyone who helped with the meal and the members who came to enjoy it.”
