With just a little over a week left before the official deadline, a large percentage of the county-wide tax levies will be collected in the next few days. Taxes assessed during 2023 are officially due next week, on Wednesday, Jan.

A Colorado man was lucky to walk away from a hot air balloon crash last Saturday on the Stasney Cook Ranch about 10 miles northwest of Albany near County Road 157. According to sheriff’s deputy Quinton Lee, the incident occurred about 11:00 a.m.

Kenneth Brandon Todd, 47, passed away in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. He was born on June 20, 1976 – Father’s Day – at Houston Memorial Hospital to parents Howard and Jann Todd of Albany, Texas. Kenny attended the Albany school system through all 12 grades and graduated in 1995.

Alan Heirman, age 77 of Albany, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2024. Funeral services will be held at2:00p.m.Thursday,Jan. 11 at the Albany Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Trimble and Rev. Danny Houze officiating. Interment will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Beate “Bea” Hawkins, 58, of Breckenridge, TX passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2024. Bea grew up in Sprollenhaus, Germany before moving to Texas. She never met a stranger and will be dearly missed and always remembered for her outgoing and loving personality.
