The Moran Bulldogs took some steps in the right direction Friday, Oct. 7 but fell 64-16 at Vernon Northside in their final nondistrct game.
The Bulldogs (0-7) have their open date this week before starting District 14-1A Division II play Friday, Oct. 21 at home against Valera Panther Creek.

The Moran Lady Bulldogs suffered a pair of three-set losses last week as the schedule finally reached district play.
The Lady Bulldogs played their second district match Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Rising Star. Results will be reported next week.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, Moran visited Trent for a nondistrict match.
The Lady Bulldogs then lost to Abilene TLC 11-25, 10-25, 25-27 at home on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
“We came together in that last set and played ball like we know how to play ball,” coach Jo Hise said.

Moran’s one-act play cast and crew will perform its fall show at 5:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the school auditorium.
The troupe will perform “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” a mashup of several Brother Grimm tales.
Tickets for the performance are $5 at the door.
FFA Fundraiser
About 30 tickets are still available for the Moran FFA fundraising dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at the Moran Events Center.
Robert Ingle, age 43, of Nebraska, formerly of Albany, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Albany with Pastor Bob Heidecker officiating. Interment followed in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Robert was born Dec. 3, 1978 in Albany, Texas to Don Ingle, Sr. and Cassie Meade. He went to Albany schools up until the ninth grade. Robert stayed in Albany and married Bobbie Jo Ten Cate on Apr. 18, 1998.

The circus is coming to town, and despite the fact that there is an out-of-town varsity football game that same night, good crowds of elementary students and their parents are expected to attend the two performances.
The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus, sponsored by the Albany Lions Club, will raise its big top on the Nancy Smith Elementary School grounds on Friday morning, Oct. 7 at 9:30 a.m., with the public invited to watch.
Later on, there will be two showtimes – 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. The midway opens at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Fort Griffin State Historic Site will offer a look at the way things used to be this weekend with its annual Living History Days.
The event will run 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7-8.
“All folks have to do is come out to Fort Griffin,” site manager Mitch Baird said. “It’s free for the kids and free for the public on Saturday. We just want everybody to come out and have a good time.”
Baird said he again expects another good crowd for Friday’s School Day.

Work finally began Saturday on the long-awaited rebuilding of the parking lot at the Shackelford County Courthouse, with plans to be finished in the next three weeks.
In the meantime, county employees and visitors to various Courthouse offices will need to park on the street and enter through either the north door facing South 2nd St. where the handicap ramp is located or the east door off Walnut St.
County judge Robert Skelton said this week that the west door is kept locked for security reasons.

The Fandangle Association has set its annual membership meeting for next Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Studebaker building (Musselman office), located at 324 South 2nd St.
The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m., with five positions on the board of directors up for election and the vote on the 2023 show on the agenda.
Members can re-elect board members whose terms are expiring, or decide to elect new board members. The directors can then elect officers for the coming year.

As scheduled, Albany families can pick up their October food commodities this Friday, Oct. 7 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
However, the pickup location has changed slightly. Because the parking lot at the Courthouse is being reconstructed, foods will be delivered at the curb on South 2nd St. in front of the Justice of the Peace office instead of behind, according to JP James Breeden, who oversees the program.
Moran delivery is still set for 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Moran City Hall.

Plans for 2022 Homecoming festivities are mostly set for Friday, Oct. 14 with students and exes gathering for a pep rally, parade, and football game where homecoming royalty will be presented at the half.
The homecoming game is planned for Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Nail Stadium versus the Miles Bulldogs, opening District 6-2A competition.
The game will be preceded by a 5:00 p.m. homecoming parade down Main Street.
