Albany students and staff members will enjoy a holidayonMonday,Oct.14 in observance of Columbus Day. This is the only holiday for the month on the school calendar.
Nancy Smith Elementary School students took part in the annual Kids on the Land program last week at the Lambshead Ranch. “The program plays along with the standards we learn in fourth grade,” NSES teacher Whitney Bennett said.
Albany FFA members have enjoyed success with animal projects exhibited at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas and the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco. At Waco, Kenzie Neve was named Champion Senior Showman and Champion Overall Steer Showman.
$ Albany’s Academic Booster Club just awarded almost $17,000 in grant requests submitted by local teachers and is continuing the fundraising campaign started a year ago. The local group has provided funding to supplement teacher trainings, equipmentpurchases for classrooms, and local scholarships in addition to sponsoring the annual academic banquet in May.
This Friday is the deadline for organizations that plan to apply for 2025 funding from the Albany Chest. Applications need to be finished and submitted by 5:00 p.m.
A weekend of activities to celebratethe150thanniversary of the founding of Shackelford Countyisnowjustaweekaway. Plans to commemorate the signing of the charter that officially organized the county are in place after months of work by members of the Shackelford 150 Club.
Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 5 General Election, which includes the presidential race along with several state and local elections.
