The second week in April is traditionally designated as National Public SafetyTelecommunicators Week and this week, April 14-19 local dispatchers are being recognized for the work they do behind the scenes of public safety.

6th graders place at TMSCA

Four Nancy Smith Elementary sixth graders competed in competition sponsored by the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA)during the state meet in San Antonio last weekend. Artie Bell won first place in the TMSCA1A/2A division in Science.

Rodriguez scholarship fundraiser set Saturday

Albany native Justin Rodriguez is being remembered byfriendsandfamily with a scholarship to be established in his name. A fundraising brisket cookout is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 to raise money for the scholarship.

Albany High School juniors and seniors and their guests gathered “Under the Stars” Saturday night at the Whitney Theatre to celebrate Prom 24. Senior brother and sister duo Tyler and Jaci Chapman were crowned Prom King and Queen, chosen from a list of six senior nominees for the honor.

Winningsubmissionsin the senior division of the Shackelford County 4-H photo contest have been submitted to the state contest, and now attention turns to judging entries in the junior division. Faith Fry, Grace Fry, and Madailein Beard each advanced multiple senior entries to state.

About 100 old and new members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a shrimp boil and fish fry last Thursday, with directors and other volunteers cooking up mounds of food. “I think it was a big hit again this year even if we didn’t have any crawfish,” Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said.
