Closet Angels to be closed May 27

Closet Angels clothing mission will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. “We’ve been opening up for a lot of school holidays,” ClosetAngels director Lori Reames said, “but Memorial Day is one that is hard to find help for.” Reamesalsoannounced Closet Angels and The Local Exchange will both close for the month of July so volunteers may take vacations and to begin preparing for Back to School Bash.

Winners named in postponed Albany car show

Following a postponement a month ago due to rain, the 17th annual Albany Classic Car Show went off without a hitch last weekend under clear skies. Organizer Robert Snyder reported that 65 vehicles were entered in the show, down a little from last year’s numbers due to conflicts with other shows in the area.

City to offer swimming lessons

Hill, council work on employment agreement A special session of the Albany city council on Monday, May 20 regarding rental of the municipal pool for swim lessons eventually ended with an unofficial agreement that swiminstructorNancyHill would be employed by the city and receive a percentage of the lesson proceeds. Albany mayor Susan Montgomery called for the special session at last week’s regular meeeting because Hill’s request to be on the May agenda had been unintentionally left off.

Opening night just 4 weeks away

With opening night just four weeks away, rehearsals and ticket sales for the summer performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle are in full swing. Ticket sales have dramatically increased, with over 500 tickets selling in the last week alone.

June 3 RSVP needed for program

The fourth and final program in the continuing education series on cattle production being offered by the extension service of Shackelford and Throckmorton counties has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Pitzer Ranch in Shackelford County.
