Albany Little League’s regular season will last just a little longer thanks to a pair of rainy days last week. Little League president Paul Hamilton said games scheduled for Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3 will be made up next week.

Nine Albany tennis players made their bids to qualify for the Class 2A state tournament this week, competing Wednesday- Thursday, May 8-9 at the Region II-2A tournament at Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills. No results were available at press time.

TheMoranboysdoubles tam of CalebYork and Ellis Hise will compete in the Region II-1A tennis tournament Thursday-Friday, May 9-10 at San Angelo. A top-two finish at the regional tournament will earn the duo a berth in the Class 1A state tournament, scheduled for Thursday-Friday, May 16-17 at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio.

Senior and freshman girls will square off against the junior and sophomore girls in this year’s powder puff football game sponsored by the Feed Store. The game will be played at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium at 2:00 p.m.

For the second year in a row, the Albany Lions are coming homefromthestategolftournament with a team trophy. Albany repeated its thirdplace finish of a year ago at the Class 2Astate tournament, played Monday-Tuesday, April 29-30 at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

After an up-and-down start to the District 8-2A baseball schedule, the Albany Lions madeastrongpushtothefinish, earning a share of the district title last week with run-rule wins at Cisco and Stamford. Albany (15-2 overall, 8-2 district) will take on Coleman this weekend in a best-of-three bi-district series.

♦ Albany will send six athletes in seven events to the Class 2A state track and field meet Friday, May 3, with two seniors looking to add to their career medal count. The meet gets underway at Meyers Stadium in Austin at 9:00 a.m.

The Albany Lady Lions saw a frustrating softball season end Friday,April 26 with a 12-0 loss to Anson in a Class 2A bi-district playoff. Albany finished 8-5 in a seasonthatbeganwithjust nine players on the roster.
