Action delayed Tuesday by trustees

TheAlbany school board met in special session on Tuesday eveningtoconsiderSuperintendent Jonathan Scott’s contract, along with possible action items that included “accept resignations and hire personnel.” Following about three hours in closed session, the board recessed the meeting until 2:00 p.m.onWednesdaypendingthe receipt of legal documents from the district’s attorney. No action was taken on any agenda items prior to recessing the meeting, but there was an indication that there would be action taken once the meeting reconvened on Wednesday.

Chief appraiser resigns position

ClaytonSnyder,whohas served in the Shackelford County Appraisal District (SCAD) office for almost nine years, since August of 2015, submitted his resignation ataMay22meeting of the SCAD board. Snyder has accepted a position in Reeves County that board president Clint Bumguardnersaid“wastoo good for him to pass up.” At the same May 22 session, Richard Petree was hired to serve as interim chiefappraiser.Petree,who held the interim position before Snyder was certified, is the former Taylor Countychiefappraiserand now operates a consulting firm that provides similar services for other entities.

Local campus ‘locked down’ briefly

A lockdown at the Albany secondary campus on Tuesday, ordered as the result of an altercation taking place a few blocks away, lasted just a few minutes, but ended with a local man arrested and charged with two counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer, along with a secondary charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. According to Albany police chief Mike House, he and chief deputy Jason Price were dispatched a little after noon to investigategunshotsbeingfired neartheAEPelectricsubstation on Hwy.
