The Lorax, Thing 1, 2 and 3, and Cat in the Hat, among other Dr. Seuss characters were seen on Nancy Smith Elementary School campus on Friday, February 28, to celebrate “Read Across America” week. The annual week-long event is celebrated in schools throughout the nation to coincide with the March 2nd birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss, whose big day fell on a Sunday this year.

Do you have a flight plan?

There have been a few major news stories of late regarding significant airplane accidents causing injury and death.  Rarely does an automobile accident make the news but in Texas about one death occurs every 2.5 hours in a vehicular accident.  Overall, about 700 Texans die each day from various causes.  In the vast majority of cases, not one of those folks knew that it would be their last day.  And, many, if not most, will “fly away” without a flight plan!

Yard sale, bake sale fundraiser planned Saturday at Shackelford County Show Barn

By Melinda L. Lucas

Shoppers should have plenty to choose from this Saturday at the special yard sale and bake sale to be held at the Shackelford County Show Barn from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

“We have so, so many things!” organizer Kristie Smith said earlier this week. “We have donations of big furniture, home furnishing and décor, kitchen items, and children’s items, which includes furniture, games, toys, and clothes. And there’s more being brought in this week. Now we need shoppers!”
