Lions compete at PK Relays, Stewart sets 800 school record

Senior Chance Stewart set a new school record in the 800-meter run to highlight Albany’s performance at the PK Relays in Graham on Saturday, March 21.

Stewart posted a time of 1:59.7 to win first place, breaking the previous school record of 2:01.16 set by Andres Salazar, a 2008 state meet qualifier.

Albany will host a high school meet all day Thursday, March 26 and a junior high meet on Friday, March 27.

The high school athletes will travel to Newcastle on March 30 for the final pre-district meet before going to the district competition in Cisco on April 9.

From the Editor’s Desk: A leader who left a mark

Living in the DFW area for more than 10 years, I was an avid listener of The Ticket. If you have lived there and you are any kind of sports fan at all, you probably were too. It was one of those things that became part of the daily routine. You got in the car, headed to work, and The Ticket was already on. My favorite show was always The Musers with Craig Miller, George Dunham and Gordon Keith.

Fiber internet project underway in Albany

Construction of the new Vero fiber internet system in Albany began a little over a month ago and is expected to continue for about two more months, according to city employee Brian Holson.

Vero representatives said service will be activated in stages as construction progresses, rather than all at once across the community. Construction is being completed in “zones,” each serving roughly 300 to 400 homes, allowing service to begin in each area as it is finished. The first zone is expected to go live in early April, with additional zones coming online over the following two months.
