The Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association is ramping up preparations for the 2025 county livestock show, scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, Jan 16-18. Association president Bronco Askew said a planning meeting will be held as soon as details can be worked out.

The Shackelford County 4-H Club completed a pair of community service projects Sunday, Dec. 8 at its final meeting of 2024.

Thepermanentveteran project proposed by the local Albany Post Office has seen a slow response, according to post office employeeTiffanyWaddell. “We had a positive response to our Memorial Day display of veteran pictures, so we decided to make it a permanent undertaking,” Waddell said.

TheAlbanyPTOishosting its first-ever Christmas Movie Night at the Aztec Theater on Friday, Dec.20. The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m.

First Baptist Church willhost“FlannelandFlapjacks” on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Matthews Memorial PresbyterianChurch’s 16th annual Christmas Feast. Meals will be served 11:00 a.m.

Closet Angels will be open one more week before closing until Jan. 6, according to Lori Reames, director. “We will open Monday, Dec. 16 for local and Breckenridge customers, then close till Jan. 6,” she said.

Localchurchesaremaking plans for Christmas services and programs as the holiday draws near. Plans for many traditional events had not been finalized at press time but will be publicized as information is received.

Albany’s junior high and elementary students completed the annual UIL Academic District competition last Wednesday in Anson, with a large numberofstudentsatboth campuses bringing home ribbons. The elementary racked up 349.33 points for second place.

TheAlbanyChamber ofCommercehasopened nominationsforthe2024 Albany Christmas Decoration Contest, inviting residents to highlight the best outdoor holiday displays in town. The contest is open to homes within the Albany city limits, and nominations will be accepted from Dec. 9 through Dec. 16.
