NSES students place in state contests

Several Albany fourth and fifth graders learned this week that they placed at the state level in competition sponsored by the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA). Contests for third through fifth graders are held completely online, with the results received earlier this week, according to Nancy Smith ElementarySchoolteacher Kelli Kreitler, who helped sponsor the students.

The Albany school bands will present end-ofyear concerts on Thursday, May 16 at the high school auditorium starting at 6:00 p.m. Thefifthgradebandwill play at 6:00 p.m., followed by the sixth grade band at 6:30 p.m.

Closet Angels lists several needs

Lori Reames, director of Closet Angels and The Local Exchange, announced that the ministries will not be open Saturday, May 11 for Second Saturday due to staffing issues. Reames said Closet Angels will be open for regular hours on Monday, May 13 with a $100 drawing planned for high school shoppers at the end of the day.

Study Club to raffle quilt in annual library fundraiser

To raise money for its scholarship fund, the Albany Study Club will once again sell raffle tickets for a quilt. This year’s quilt, donated by Louann George, is currently on display at the Shackelford County Library and will be included in the Study Club Quilt Show at the Whitney Theatre the last two weeks of June.

Health fair formally cancelled

This year’s health fair sponsored by Resource Care has officially been cancelled for 2024, according to Mindy Ary, director at ResourceCare. Weather conditions caused the cancellation of the fair, which was in its 20th year and had been scheduled for last Friday at the Bank Park.
