The annual Baccalaureate Service for the Albany High School Class of 2024 is set for Sunday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. André Raymond, former AHS science teacher, will be the guest speaker at the event, introduced by class valedictorian, Kiana Roberson.
inner Graduating Albany senior Sidney Russell is certainly going out on top this week, competing and medaling at the UIL State Academic Meet on Tuesday and playing in the UIL State Tennis Tournament today and tomorrow. This is her second time to compete in both meets, having qualified last year as well.
Organizers are backed up to the starting gate and ready for a second attempt at the 17th annual Albany Classic Car Show this Saturday, May 18 after the original April date was rained out. Earlier this week, more rain was forecast for the weekend, but those chances have mostly fizzled out, and vounteer Robert Snyder is optimistic that Saturday will dawn as the kind of day that classic car owners will enjoy getting their vehicles out into.
The call has been issued for members of the community who would like to participate in the cast of the Fort Griffin Fandangle to begin rehearsals starting Monday, May 13 at the Prairie Theater. Practices for the four summer performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle will start on Monday, but cast members are urged to view the rehearsal schedule found online.
Plans are once again being finalized for the annual Albany Classic Car Show, rescheduled from its original April 20 date because of the weather. Organizer Robert Snyder is optimistic that next week’s new time will bring plenty of car owners and spectators to town.
May 18 event cancelled Albany Live announced this week that a concert scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at the Aztec Theater has been cancelled. WilliamBeckmannwas scheduled to perform as part of Albany Live’s lineup for its third series.
With the arrival of summertime weather in a few weeks, Albany’s city pool will open on June 1. Savannah Maberry has been hired as the new pool manager, and a corps of lifeguards is also in place.
