School holidays set April 14, 20

Albany ISD staff and students will be off both Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10 for a four-day Easter weekend.

Younger students at Nancy Smith Elementary School had Easter egg hunts planned this week.

Students will be released at their regular times Thursday, April 6 (today).

School will resume at the usual time on both campuses on Tuesday morning, April 11.

The remainder of the semester will include mandatory state testing, along with numerous spring activities.

Stock show assn. to meet April 11

Plans for the 2024 Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Show will be proposed, discussed, and voted on next week at the Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association annual meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at the Albany High School Ag Building.

The meeting will include election for two positions on the Association’s board as well as discussion of this year’s show and proposed rule changes.

Easter Bunny to make appearance

Easter events will be featured throughout the day on Saturday, including the annual egg hunt at Webb City Park, the Easter Bunny posing with kids for pictures downtown, and a “Spring Fling” of kids activities at the Bank Park.

The day will start with an egg hunt at City Park starting at 11:00 a.m. hosted by the Albany Volunteer Fire Department.

The Easter Bunny will be hopping around in front of First National Bank from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. to visit with children and hand out Easter candy.

Giant egg hunt set Saturday

The chance to hunt for eggs by the basketful should make for a fun Saturday for local children.

With a new late morning time, members of the Albany Volunteer Fire Department will host their annual Easter egg hunt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 at Webb City Park.

The egg hunt is open to all local children and their guests.

This will be the 21st year for the community egg hunt, which is normally set in the afternoon.

Pat Green to headline CareFest

The fifth annual CareFest announced this week that Pat Green and Kevin Fowler will headline the one-day music festival set for Saturday, Aug. 26.

The event will again be held at Happy Life, Happy Wife Weddings and Events Venue on FM 1084. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m.

This year’s acts also include Della Rose, Cooder Graw, Cory Morrow, Mike McClure, and Cody Canada and the Departed, along with Kevin Fowler and Pat Green on two stages.

Let the Good Times Boil

Albany Chamber of Commerce members will be treated to a Crawfish Boil at the Depot Thursday (today) beginning at 6:00 p.m.

“All Chamber members are invited,” Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said. “This is an appreciation event for all current members.”

A check-in table will be set up in the parking lot at the Chamber office for anyone who wants to renew a membership or join.

The menu for the event will feature crawfish, fish, and all the fixings. Water will be provided.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8 at the family farm outside of Moran with Anthony Ceder officiating.

DOROTHY CHURCHILL

Dorothy Churchill, age 91 of Albany, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, Apr. 5 at the Albany Cemetery with Pastor Paul Johnston officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Dorothy Marie Benjamin was born May 3, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois to Cecil Clayton Benjamin and Catherine Ruth Foss Benjamin.
