City okays NNR tax rate

A quorum of Albany city council members voted during the regular monthly meeting time on Monday, Sept. 12 to adopt the tax rate that had been proposed on Aug. 23.

Council members also looked at a possible “swap” of city-owned property near the water plant with acreage south of the airport.

Up-Close Look

Members of the Old Jail Art Center will get an up-close look at three new exhibits during a dinner reception on Saturday, Sept. 17, with the galleries open to the public during regular museum hours.

The staff at Old Jail Art Center has been busy preparing for the weekend’s opening.

The opening will start with refreshments, viewing, and conversation on Saturday even­ing from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. for OJAC members, with introductions and then dinner at 8:00 p.m.

CA salary issue may be resolved

Topping off a two-week exchange between county elected officials that occasionally caused tempers to flare, county attorney Rollin Rauschl made a statement on Monday that he intends to absorb a loss in income “to the extent of $19,000.”

After being notified by the State Comptroller’s office in August that the state has been sending the wrong amount for its portion of the CA salary for the past two years, county judge Robert Skelton and the commissioners had looked at a couple of options to try to make up at least part of the difference.

Lisa Nicole Warne Glasmann, 39, of Prospect, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Aug. 31, 2022.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sept. 17 at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church located at 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road, Harrods Creek, KY 40027. The Rev. Clint Wilson will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 17 at St. Francis in the Fields. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 19. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Pearson Funeral Home.

Field trips slated this week, MISD to have school Friday

Moran ISD students have two upcoming field trips that will focus on college and career opportunities.

On Friday, Sept. 9, eighth and ninth grade students will attend Tarleton State University’s Ag Discovery Day, one of several Academic Discovery Days hosted by the university.

Moran girls to host Trent Saturday

The Moran Lady Bulldog volleyball team dropped its two matches last week and now faces its longest homestand of the season.

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, Moran (4-10) hosted Woodson. Results will be reported next week.

The Lady Bulldogs play their third consecutive home match at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 against Trent.

In last week’s matches, Moran lost in four sets at Gustine on Tuesday, Aug. 30 before being swept Saturday, Sept. 3 at home by Rotan.

Bulldogs to face Aspermont Friday night

The Moran Bulldogs football team encountered some ups and downs in its second game of the season, falling 50-0 to Baird on Friday, Sept. 2, in the home opener at Bulldog Field.

The Bulldogs (0-2) return to the road at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at Aspermont.

Bulldog coach John Hughes said Moran was inconsistent in its outing against Baird, which scored 22 points in each of the first two quarters before ending the game with a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter.

“We went every direction we could have gone,” Hughes said.

Runners open CC season

The Albany Lions and Lady Lions opened their cross country season Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Haskell with 10 runners competing.

“The kids did so good,” coach Ginger Norton said. “I’m very proud of them.”

The runners returned to action Sept. 6 at the Eula meet. Results will be reported next week.

At Haskell, Albany had five boys in the varsity division. The Lions’ top three finishers were sophomores. Times for Albany runners were not reported.

JV pushes for last-minute TD

The Albany Lions junior varsity football team held on late to take an 18-13 victory over Dublin on Thursday, Sept. 1 at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

“Overall, it was a tough fight and a good win,” coach David Fairchild said.

The JV Lions (2-0) play their third consecutive home game to start the season on Thursday, Sept. 8 (tonight) when Seymour visits. The game, which is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., will be the nightcap of a tripleheader with the junior high teams.

Tourney winners named

The team of Walker-Anderson successfully defended its title at the Albany Golf Club’s Labor Day Tournament, winning a competitive Championship Flight on Sunday, Sept. 4 at Albany Golf Course.

Walker-Anderson shot 130 over 36 holes, edging Waters-Holson by a stroke with Russell-Bodney another shot back in third place.

The two-person scramble drew 42 teams for the weekend, according to Albany Golf Club president Randy Walker.
