Moran ISD students have two upcoming field trips that will focus on college and career opportunities.

On Friday, Sept. 9, eighth and ninth grade students will attend Tarleton State University’s Ag Discovery Day, one of several Academic Discovery Days hosted by the university.

“The students will get to see the campus, talk to faculty and staff, ask questions, and get exposed to a college campus if they haven’t had the chance to yet,” Moran ag sciences teacher Minnie Denson said. “I’m excited to see what the day will hold and hope that the students get a good experience out of it.”

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, high school students will attend the World of Work (WOW) Youth Expo at Abilene Convention Center.

“The kids will get to visit with employers and college representatives,” Moran principal Jo Hise said.

The WOW Youth Expo, hosted by Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas, brings awareness to all that West Central Texas has to offer.

The purpose of the event is to expose, educate, and engage high school students with employers and organizations as well as post-secondary schools in the region. The event will include in-person exhibits featuring booths for career exploration from employers, workforce readiness activities, mock interviews, support services, and interactive booths.

School Schedule

Moran will conduct classes on Friday, Sept. 9 to make up for having Monday, Sept. 5 off for Labor Day. With MISD operating on a four-day school week this year, the move keeps the district on schedule for the fall semester.

The only other scheduled Friday class day will be Jan. 13, the first week of the spring semester.

The first six weeks ends Thursday, Sept. 15.
