The Albany Lions and Lady Lions opened their cross country season Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Haskell with 10 runners competing.

“The kids did so good,” coach Ginger Norton said. “I’m very proud of them.”

The runners returned to action Sept. 6 at the Eula meet. Results will be reported next week.

At Haskell, Albany had five boys in the varsity division. The Lions’ top three finishers were sophomores. Times for Albany runners were not reported.

In a field of 120 runners, Jonathan Coody placed 42nd, followed by Jayce Tinkle in 58th place and Landon Kreitler in 82nd. Junior Brayden Watson was 84th, with freshman Kaison Cehand rounding out the lineup in 113th place.

In the varsity girls race, which had 153 runners, junior Sidney Russell finished 32nd with senior Briley Tabor finishing 36th.

The rest of the Lady Lions contingent competed in the JV girls race, which had 67 runners. Junior Maci Hatchett placed eighth to earn a medal, followed by sophomore Myleigh Leveridge in 19th place and junior Jaci Chapman in 57th.

The Eula meet began a stretch of three meets in eight days for Albany. The locals will compete at Abilene on Saturday, Sept. 10, and at Hawley on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
