Moran girls start district play

By Kathy Thomson Moran volleyball teams lost district matches last week to girls from Strawn and Newcastle. Moran traveled to Strawn on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for three matches. The junior high Lady Bulldogs lost to Strawn 25-15, 18-25, 8-15.

Bulldogs suffer first loss of season

By Kathy Thomson The Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the season last Friday, Sept. 20, falling to 3-1 on the season after losing 19-25 to the Rotan Yellowhammers. “We lost last week, but I was proud of the guys and how they fought through some major adversity,” said head coach John Hughes.

Dress-up days planned next week

Teams to Battle for Blade this weekend

By Kathy Thomson There is still time for teams to register and compete for awards including “The Blade of Fort Griffin” and prize money in several categories at the Fort Griffin BBQ Battle for the Blade and World Championship Dove Cook-Off this weekend.

Chest applications due by next Friday

Local organizations who plan to apply for funding from the Albany Chest need to finish and submit their applications by 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, Oct. 4. Organizations wishing to receive an allocation must submit a written request by the deadline.

Chamber lunch moves to tourney

The weekly noon luncheon for the Albany Chamber of Commerce will take place at the clubhouse at Albany Golf Course this Friday in support of the Kiwanis Club’s annual benefit golf tournament. Proceeds from the Sept. 27 fajita meal will be used for scholarships. Tickets are $12.

Tax rate to be voted on Sept. 30

By Melinda L. Lucas Shackelford County judge Bob Skelton and all four commissioners gathered for the second required tax rate hearing at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, waiting 15 minutes for residents of the county to list any objections they might have to setting the tax rate at 58.91 cents.
