Softball season ends at bi-district

The Lady Lions allowed the Windthorst Lady Trojans to jump out to an early lead during the bi-district playoff game last Thursday, then watched any hope of advancing slip away despite an admirable effort to recover.

Albany fell to Windthorst 10-0, with the Lady Trojans scoring all their runs in the first two inn-ings, ending the season for the Lady Lions.

Saying Thank You

Retiring school board members Pam Davis (l) and Betsy Parsons (c) visit with each other and with Sara Head (r) during a well-attended special reception last Sunday afternoon at the Aztec. Residents of Albany and the Albany school district got a chance to say thank you to the two women, who have served as trustees for 21 and 30 years respectively.

Moran senior advances to state

Moran senior Kobee Lapp won gold in the triple jump at the Region 3-A track meet at Whitney High School last Friday and is headed to the 2019 University Interscholastic League Track and Field State Championships in Austin on Friday, May 10. 

“He won the event on his final jump by over a half a foot,” said coach Matthew Hise. “Going into the last jump he was in third place. After losing out of going to state last year by 1/4 of an inch, it was extremely exciting to see him earn his way to state this time.”

MISD classes experience HSU Western Heritage

First through fifth grade classes at Moran were able to attend Hardin-Simmons University’s 37th annual Western Heritage Day last Thursday, April 25.

Western Heritage Day is designed to immerse children of the Big Country in western culture as it might have been in Abilene during the 1800s.

Pizza fundraiser planned

The youth of First Baptist Church of Moran are raising money to go to summer camp by delivering pizzas this Saturday, May 4.

The $12 each, single topping pizzas from Pizza Heaven, must be pre-ordered by today, May 2, and will be delivered to houses in Moran around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and in Albany around 6:00 p.m. the same evening.

Payment by either cash or check is due at the time of delivery.

Pizzas can be topped with any one of the following: cheese, canadian bacon, hamburger, pepperoni, or sausage.
