Community cleanup set Saturday

This Saturday, June 16, is the annual community clean-up day sponsored by the Albany Chamber of Commerce and the City of Albany, and organizers are hoping for a large turnout so Albany will look its best for the visitors expected to start arriving next week for Fandangle.

Courthouse clock ticking again

The Shackelford County Courthouse clock “has ticked whole days, whole months, and whole years from the lives of all of us here in Albany. It has kept time for our fathers and grandfathers. Flags to be flown today

Local businesses and residents are encouraged to join with people across the United States in the annual celebration of Flag Day today, June 14.

Albany to host all-star pool games

Albany is entering three local all-star teams in the District 5 tournament this season, with pool games to start locally on Saturday.

Pool games will continue throughout the next Tuesday, with bracket games starting on Saturday, June 23.

8U team advances to championship

Albany hosted an eight and under machine pitch tournament last Saturday, with the local teams coming out on top after fi ve games to advance to the next two rounds. Albany qualified for the District 5 semifi nal game in Abilene on Monday, beating Snyder 12-10 in extra innings to advance to the championship game.

Old Jail plans Fandangle events

The staff at the Old Jail Art Center has three special events scheduled during June in addition to the current summer art exhibits and displays of various items from the museum’s collection and archives.

A Solar Round-Up Family Festival takes place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23.

PAT CARNES

Patrick Moran Carnes died May 31, 2018 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 90. He was born July 31, 1927 to parents Truman and Maurine Carnes in Texon, Texas, a Texas oil boomtown planned and built in 1924. The Carnes family moved to San Angelo in 1932, where Pat grew up with sisters, Jacqueline Drake and Charlotte Sykes, and brothers, Wallace and Harold (Buddy) Carnes. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

MELBA & JIM GRAHAM

Melba Jean Tankersley Graham, age 67, and Jim Graham, age 82, both of Albany, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Graveside funeral services were held Friday, June 8 in the Albany Cemetery with Pastor Pete Parker officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Melba Jean Tankersley was born in Dallas, Texas to parents, Jim Tankersley and Anna Schkade Tankersley on March 19, 1951.
