Faith Fry earns Arabian Horse scholarship

In May of 2024, Shackelford County’s Faith Fry was awarded the Arabian Horse Foundation Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Fry is a home-schooled student who finished her high school certification this spring.

Spots still open in OJAC camps

The deadline to register for this year’s summer workshops at the Old Jail Art Center has been pushed back to Sunday, July 21, according to the OJAC’s director of education Erin Whitmore, with the link closing at 6:00 p.m. that day.
Participants in the Old Jail’s upcoming OJAC Galaxy will make “planets” using balloons and paint. The registration deadline for five different workshops is this Sunday, July 21.

Scripture rock hunt underway

Participants in the annual CommunityVacation Bible School can get an early start to next week’s VBSwithanew“Scripture Rock Hunt” that started Tuesday and will continue until Sunday night. This year’s Bible School will be held July 28-31 at First Baptist Church and the Feed Store.
Finding this gold rock could mean a brand new bike for the child or student who brings it to the Community VBS set to start later this month. There are also 15 other “scripture rocks” hidden in the downtown and city park areas. Courtesy Photo

FCCLA teams place at national

Both teams of local FCCLA students who advanced to the National Leadership Conference in Seattle placed in the top 10 in the nation and made it to the stage for the awards program in separate events.
