The location of next week’s Albany Chest board meeting has been changed to the Aztec reception room because of a conflict at the Feed Store. The board will meet at 5:15 p.m.

County adopts $ 4.86M budget

Tax rate okayed without opposition

After holding the required hearing for the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Shackelford County commissioners voted unanimously to adopt both the proposed budget and the proposed tax rate during a meeting on Monday, Sept. 8.

The bigger bulk of the session, however, was spent on other issues, including a possible memorandum of understanding between the two local fire departments, Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction involving the City of Abilene, and additional technology expenses.

New exhibitions to open at OJAC

Two artists will be featured in the Old Jail Art Center’s fall exhibitions, scheduled to open at the local museum with a members’ reception and dinner on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Registrations still accepted for GED classes

Registration for GED classes continues weekly on Monday and Tuesday nights at the Shackelford County Library, according to local instructor Kenzie Fairchild. Classes started in August; however, students are free to begin the program at any point.
