Lady Lions claim 13 spots on All-District team

By Sam Waller

The Albany Lady Lions earned 13 places on the All-District 10-2A girls basketball honors list with four team members cited for both their play and academics.

The team was selected by vote of district coaches and released following the exit of all district qualifiers from the playoffs.

On the court, senior Caroline Holson was voted to the first team with junior Madi Parrott and sophomore Ashlyn Miller on second team. Receiving honorable mention were sophomores Charlee Hefner and Tatum Grady and freshman Charli Trail.

“The coaches in the district noticed the girls’ hard work in games throughout the year,” Lady Lions coach Ashlyn Bevel said. “It’s not just the kids who score the points, but the ones who work hard the entire basketball game and benefit their team.”

The good news, Bevel said, is all but Holson return for next season.

“That makes me excited,” she said. “The growth they had this year will continue on into summer ball and will continue into next year. And we’ve got some athletes coming up who will push them and make them work harder to be better.”

To earn academic all-district honors, team members had to maintain a grade average of 90 or higher during the third and fourth six weeks. Holson, Parrott, Miller, and Trail earned academic honors along with junior Alli McDaniel, sophomore Charley Flowers and freshman Kamryn Graham.

“I was very proud to have seven of our 10 earn academic all-district,” Bevel said. “I  know some of the other schools don’t have that. That was exciting to see.”
