Junior high teams start with 3 wins

The Cubs and Lady Cubs started basketball season last week against Cross Plains, with all three teams that played posting wins.
All of the junior high teams saw action on Monday against Haskell, but results were not available due to an early deadline.
The girls will travel to Stamford on Dec. 2 for a set of games, while the boys will host Stamford on the same date. Games will start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.

The eighth grade boys handed Cross Plains a 42-13 loss on Nov. 21.
“We seemed to pick up right where we left off last season,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “The guys ran the transitions well, played aggressively on both ends and really pushed the pace.”
Adam Hill and Lanxton Viertel were named offensive standouts.
Scorers were Cole Read 2, Lute Wheeler 4, Hill 19, Zane Waggoner 6, Bryson Herring 1, Viertel 10.
The seventh grade boys also got a big win over Cross Plains, 34-11.
“The guys played well for their first game,” the coach said. “We did a good job of attacking the basket and finished shots in the paint. We got some steals by playing the passing lanes.”
Branson Beal was the offensive standout.
Scoring were Ashton Bailey 6, Jace Little 5, Jake Hale 4, Beal 10, Landon Balliew 4, Ethan Green 1, Hagen Miller 4.
The eighth grade girls also earned a 37-33 win over Cross Plains.
“The girls did a good job for their first game,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Kiana Roberson dominated the inside game scoring 16 points, with Callan Edgar behind her with six points.”
The coach commended Jaci Chapman on inside defense, while Robin Lucas got the nod for the outside.
“I saw good things and a lot of fight in these girls,” the coach said. “We are ready for a great season.”
