Local student performs in Nutcracker

Fourth grade students fro Nancy Smith Elementary School attended Abilene Ballet Theater’s 36th annual production of The Nutcracker at the Paramount Theater inAbilene.

NSES principal John Gallagher said about 35 students made the trip, whichwascappedbylunch at Chick-fil-A. In addition to offering students exposure to the arts, Gallagher said, the Albany contingent also witnessed the solo performance of NSES student Kalison Oliver.

“We were excited to attend and learn,” Gallagher said, “but very excited to support our student who was performing, as well.”

Oliver has performed in the production for seven years, starting as a baby angel. This year, she soloed as the Russian Doll Oliver said she loves performing for the schools because the students have so much fun.

“They always are ready to laugh, cheer, and clap,” she said. “This is really encouraging and helps pump us up. After the school shows, we get to greet the students in our costumes, and they always make us feel like superstars.”
