˚ PRINCIPAL’SPOINTS

Nancy Smith Elementary continues to see great success this week.Studentsandstaff are back in classrooms after the Thanksgiving Break. With just three weeks until Christmas, students are busy mastering content and beginning to wrap up the fall semester.

On Tuesday, Nov. 28, Elementary Gifted and Talented students traveled to Abilene to learn about factory production and learn about how items big and small are produced across the city. We are grateful and thankful to be able to expose our students to new learning environments and opportunities across the Big Country. If you are interested in learning more about the Gifted and Talented program on the elementary campus, reach out to Mrs. Fields for more information.

On Friday, Dec. 1, progress report cards for the third six weeks will become available online through the Ascender parent portal. Reach out to your child’s teachers with any questions.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, students across grade levels will participate in Academic UIL. We are proud of the work our students have put in and look forward to competing against schools across the Big Country.

We look forward to continued success at Nancy Smith Elementary, where we Enter to Learn, and leave to Achieve.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break full of blessings. This time of year, we begin to tire of school and are ready for the Christmas break. Conflict seems to creep in when students want to be out of school. Motivation wanes, andpatience fades. There are around 15instructionaldaysleft in the semester where parentscanensuretheir kids stay on track to finish strong. These days are vital for academic success and extracurricular events such as sports and stock shows.

Parents need to stay involved to make sure their kids are engaged academically. Here are some tips:

•Understand your child’s capabilities and maintain expectations at home.

•Use organizational tools to help kids keep up with assignments, projects, and tests.

•Keep a quiet, stressfree environment at home where kids can focus without distraction.

•Always try to focus on positive reinforcement rather than taking a punitive approach. Focus ontheimprovement, not the disappointment.

•Teach your child to communicate directly with teachers and take advantage of the opportunity to finish work in Cub/Lion Academy.

•As always, parents need to stay positive, reinforce the importance of coming to school, and help students keep a strong, work attitude.
