Moran duo earn national award

Five Moran FFAofficers and two Moran graduates leave Friday, Oct. 27 for the FFAnationalconventionin Indianapolis.

The group, which will include three adult advisors, will be joined by 2022 Moran graduates Hannah Rogers and Johnnie Hise.

The pair will receive the FFA American Degree on Nov. 4 becoming the first Moran FFA members to achieve the rank.

More than 200 FFA members from Texas earnedthedegreethisyear.

To be eligible to receive theAmerican FFADegree, members must meet qualifications such as receiving a State FFA Degree, holding active membership for the past three years, completing secondary instruction inanagricultural education program and operating an outstanding supervised agricultural experience program. Community service, leadership abilities and outstanding scholasticachievementare also required.

Rogers, who now attends Texas Tech, and Hise, who attends Texas A&M, became the second and third Moran FFA members to attain the Texas Lone Star FFA Degree. The first was Donnie Connally in 1955.

The Lone Star Degree is the highest degree of membershiptheStateFFA Association can award.

Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson will receive Honorary American Degree on Nov. 3. The degree honors individuals who have provided exceptional service on a national level to agriculture, agricultural education, or FFA. Additionally, teachers who have created high-quality agricultural education programs which inspire and motivate their students to strive for success are eligible.

Trunk or Treat

Moran will celebrate Trunk or Treat at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday,Oct.31atthehigh school parking lot.

The Moran PTO will provide free hot dogs, chips and drinks.

The event is open to all members of the Moran community.
