Closet Angels and Neighbors in Need will be closed for at least a couple of weeks, as well as not accepting donations, because of illness and a shortage of volunteer help.

Lori Reames, director of Closet Angels, said neither organization has set a date for reopening.

“We’re not committing until we see how it goes ,” she said. “We’re taking it one week at a time.”

Reames said the situation is even tougher for Neighbors in Need, where program coordinator Clara Miller is expected to be out through September.

“We are asking folks to not drop off anything at Neighbors in Need until further notice,” Reames said. “There is no one available to process it or move it inside.”

Instead, Reames said, the program is looking for help in removing what is on-site.

“We definitely need some strong helpers with a pickup, a truck, or a trailer to help haul some of that stuff,” she said.

At Closet Angels, Reames said, she is asking that clothing donations only be for the current or upcoming season because the facility does not have enough room to house all four seasons at once.

She also asked that clothes be laundered before being donated.

“The lady who did our laundry for us is no longer there,” Reames. “If donors can bring clothing clean and smoke free, that would save us a huge amount of work.”

High school students, including National Honor Society members, may earn community service hours by helping either ministry.

“If you or someone you know has a desire to serve in some capacity, please call, text, or message me at 325-721-8620,” said Reames. “We could sure use the help.”
