The Albany Lions Club is taking part in a project to provide ramps for homes of disabled residents.

Janna Ledbetter, Lions Club secretary/treasurer, is coordinating the effort locally.

“We’re partnering with the Kiwanis Club out of Abilene,” Ledbetter said. “TexasRamps.org actually provides the materials. We provide the patrons and help with the installation.”

Ledbetter said one ramp has already been built in Albany, and three others are scheduled.

“This is a project for people who need ramps to be able to get in and out of their houses,” she said.

Ledbetter said applicants must meet certain requirements to qualify for a ramp.

“Beneficiaries have to be under a doctor’s care or home health that will refer them for a ramp,” she said. “They can’t just call up and say ‘I want a ramp.’ There has to be a medical person who says they are in need of a ramp.”

Ledbetter said anyone needing information about qualifying can contact her at 325-260-3857.

“People also need to contact their healthcare providers, and the providers need to fill out paperwork at TexasRamps.org.”

Ledbetter added that she is compiling a list of local applicants to help expedite the process.

“I need to know contact names so I can tell the regional director who to look for,” she said. “Program-wide, it’s a huge list.”
