The Shackelford County Library children’s story hour will extend into July, but in a slightly different format, according to organizer Janna Ledbetter.

Future sessions are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning July 8 and will continue as long as there is sufficient interest, Ledbetter said.

“We are going to keep going,” Ledbetter said this week. “We’ll see how many children will come. As long as we have a response, then we will have continue the program.”

Ledbetter said librarian Jan Fulkerson will conduct the program in July and possibly beyond.

“There will definitely be stories and singing,” Ledbetter said. “We may do some arts and crafts, but we’re still working on that.”

The program, which is aimed at preschool and early elementary children, is designed to give children access to reading material during the summer and familiarize them with the local library.

Registration is not required to attend. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult.

The story hour wrapped up its four-week June run, which had a theme of service to the community, on Tuesday, June 28 with a visit from Shackelford County Health Clinic personnel.

“We talked about doctors with the idea you don’t have to be afraid,” Ledbetter said. “You don’t just go because you’re sick. You also go for checkups and routine medication.”

Each of Tuesday’s participants received a toy stethoscope.

“Our presenters showed the kids know how to hear their lungs and heartbeat,” Ledbetter said.

Previous visitors included the Albany Volunteer Fire Department, DPS, and Shackelford County EMS.
