Ivy, Fairchild crowned 2025 Homecoming royalty

Seniors Mimi Ivy and Cade Fairchild were crowned Albany High School’s 2025 Homecoming Queen and King during halftime ceremonies at the Albany vs. Coahoma football game Friday night, Sept. 19, at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

The pair, both Albany seniors and lifelong friends, were crowned in front of a large homecoming crowd. The king and queen were selected by a vote of students in grades 9–12 from among eight senior nominees. Class princes and princesses, organization sweethearts and beaus, and other royalty were also introduced on the field.

The Coming Home King and Queen representing the class of 1975 – Rick Chapman and Teresa Hudman Whisler – were also presented at midfield during halftime ceremonies.

Parade winners

The Homecoming parade, held Friday afternoon, featured floats from all four high school classes, plus a junior high entry. This year’s theme was U.S. cities.

The junior class took first place with their “Miami, Florida” float. The sophomore class was second with “Nashville, Tennessee,” and the freshmen placed third with “Los Angeles, California.” The senior class followed with a “Las Vegas, Nevada” float.

The junior high entered “New York, New York,” but was not part of the official judging.

Homecoming Queen

Mimi Ivy, daughter of Paul and Ginny Ivy, has participated in varsity cheerleading from freshman through senior year, serving as captain this year. She was named All-American as a junior and senior and cheered in both state championship games in 2022 and 2023.

She’s also a varsity athlete in volleyball and tennis, where she was a district honoree and co-captain. She and Fairchild earned a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the state tennis tournament as juniors.

Ranked third in her class, Ivy is active in FFA, NHS, and student council, and has served in multiple leadership roles, including senior class secretary. In FCCLA, Ivy is a four-time national qualifier. Her eighth grade parliamentary procedure team won the national championship.

She plans to attend Texas Tech University and is a member of the Albany Church of Christ.

Homecoming King

Cade Fairchild has been involved in tennis all four years, advancing to state with Ivy as his partner and placing third as a junior. He was also a member of Albany’s back-to-back football state championship teams.

He is a student journalist for the Lions Roar, where he earned first place in editorial writing from ILPC and helped the staff earn a Silver Star Award in spring 2025. He serves as an editor this year.

A performer in the Fort Griffin Fandangle since eighth grade and a student crew member this season, Fairchild is also active in FCCLA and was a national parliamentary procedure competitor as a freshman. He is a member of the Albany Church of Christ and plans to attend Tarleton State University.

Fairchild is the son of David and Kenzie Fairchild, both educators in the Albany ISD. His twin brother, Calhan Fairchild, was also nominated for king.
