Closet Angels and Neighbors In Need are joining forces this weekend to host fundraisers benefitting Kristi Brooker as she continues her fight against breast cancer.

According to Lori Reames, both ministries will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, Oct. 24, and all proceeds will go to help with the cost of traveling to and from Brooker’s treatments.

“Kristi has always stepped up for Albany and Shackelford  County when it comes to fighting fires and volunteering, so this feels like the least we can do to give back,” said Reames. “Our prayers are with her and her family as they face this together.”

She added that Brooker comes from a large, supportive family who has been by her side, trying to help in any way.

“Kristi has a big heart and and is always the first to pitch in when needed,” said her aunt, Rita Crowder.

The selection at Closet Angels includes items for the whole family, including coats, shoes, accessories, baseball cleats and pants, Halloween costumes, and some linens.

“We will have the sea container open, with a limit of four shoppers out there and 10 inside, so you may have to wait briefly to come in if we have a big turnout,” said Reames. “We are hoping to attract new shoppers now that we are only open to Shackelford County residents.”

Neighbors In Need will be open during the same time period, and Clara Miller is also looking for a big turnout.

“I hope people will start looking at us as a good resource for saving money and going green,” said Miller. “We work so hard to keep this ministry going, and we hope to bring in more shoppers.”

She commented that there is a wide variety of items at the Railroad Street location, ranging from furniture and medical equipment to household items and decor, baby gear, books, videos, linens, and toys.

“Think of it as a big, ongoing garage sale that benefits the community,” said Miller.

Neighbors In Need donations usually go toward air conditioning and heating, but proceeds from this sale will all be donated to Kristi Brooker.

“We live in a very special and unique community, and we are here for one another, especially one of our own like Kristi.” said Miller. “She is one of those special people who gives to others and gives her time to help this community and this county.”

Closet Angels is located at 132 S. Jacobs Street, across from MMPC, and Neighbors In Need is located between the fire departments on Railroad Street, west of the Post Office.

“To keep up with hours of operations and any changes, please look for Closet Angels Albany Texas and Albany Neighbors In Need on Facebook, like us and share our posts,” Reames concluded.
