Closet Angels to reopen

By Sam Waller

Closet Angels will reopen for business on Monday, Sept. 20, while Neighbors in Need will be operating on an appointment-only basis for the foreseeable future, according to Closet Angels director Lori Reames.

Reames said Closet Angels will be open from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Monday and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

“We’ll be open, but with limited help,” she said. “We’’re understaffed, but if someone really needs something, come on in.”

Reames said the staffing problems could cause delays in providing service.

“Everyone will just have to bear with us and be patient,” she said. “There may be a line.”

Reames said there is a possibility of limiting the number of customers allowed in at a time because of COVID-19 concerns.

“People may have to wait out in their cars but hopefully only for a short time,” she said.

Reames also asked that clothing donations be for the current season only because the facility does not have enough room to house all four seasons at once.

She also asked that clothes be laundered before being donated.

Neighbors in Need

Neighbors in Need will operate on a limited basis while coordinator Clara Miller battles health issues, Reames said.

“NIN will only be available by appointment, and that includes donations or shopping,” Reames said. “There’s really nobody to open it right now.”

To make an appointment, contact Reames at 325-721-8620.

“We’re downsizing to just meet the basic needs of the community,” she said.

Reames said Neighbors in Need will accept limited donations for items such as medical supplies, fans, air conditioners, heaters, bed frames (no mattresses), working appliances, dressers or chests of drawers, and kitchen necessities.

“That’s only if we have room for it,” she said. “Donors can call me and I’ll let them know if we have room. We’re asking that nothing be left outside.”

Reames said further updates will be posted on Facebook.

“We are definitely not operating like we used to,” she said. “We just don’t have the manpower.”
