School, hospital board seats filled

By Melinda L. Lucas

Voters in Shackelford County cast ballots Saturday, May 3, to elect representatives for both county school boards and the hospital district, with contested races decided for Albany ISD, Moran ISD, and the Shackelford County Hospital District.

John Gallagher secured the Albany ISD Place 7 trustee seat with 191 votes, defeating challenger Teagan Brown, who received 57. Gallagher will replace Kim Fuentes, who resigned from that seat.

A total of 248 ballots were cast in the school race, including 163 during early voting and 85 on Election Day.

Matt Bellah and Joe Tidwell were unopposed and retained their seats in Places 5 and 6, respectively.

In the Shackelford County Hospital District election, six candidates vied for three open two-year terms.

Incumbent Jo Ann Estridge led the field with 166 votes, followed by Ami Davis with 110 and Karin Cox with 100. Other candidates included Anita Jackson (72 votes), Jed Cottle (37), and Aaron Frohn (16).

Mike Folsom ran unopposed for a one-year unexpired term on the hospital board.

Turnout for the hospital election totaled 259 voters, with 204 casting ballots early and 55 voting on May 3.

Moran ISD voters reelected Alice Branham and Sam Snyder to the school board, receiving 36 and 31 votes, respectively. Challenger Chris Leonard earned 12 votes. Jason Price was unopposed for a two-year unexpired term on the same board.

The City of Albany, City of Moran, and Fort Griffin Special Utility District canceled their scheduled elections due to uncontested races.
