Record number attend girls camp

A record group of 187 girls attended the Big Country FCA Weekend of Champions girls retreat over the weekend at Eastland’s Solid Rock Camp. Local FCA representative Paul Johnston, who led the program, said it was a successful weekend.

Madison Jones conquers Mount Kilimanjaro

Albany native Madison Jones took part in a oncein- a-lifetime adventure a few weeks ago when she climbed Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. Jones, a 2014 Albany High School graduate, spent seven days scaling the peak, which rises 19,341 feet above sea level.

Youth from across North Texas will converge at Eastland’s Solid Rock Camp the next two weekends for the annual Weekend of Champions retreats. Separate boys and girls camps serving students from eighth through 12th grades will be held on consecutive weekends.

FBC youth plan pancake supper

The First Baptist Church youth group’s first fundraising project of the year will be the annual Pancake Supper. Proceeds will go to cover travel expenses for church camp this summer, FBC youth minister Eduardo San Lucas said.
