Lynsi's Local Beat: Fresh seafood in beef country
Seafood in beef country? Being 12 hours from the coast typically does not scream fresh seafood as a culinary option. If you are like most readers and grew up in the Big Country, you only ate salmon croquet patties or fried catfish. However, Goodnight Steakhouse and Saloon is bringing back the popular Thursday shrimp night starting on Thursday, February 6 and will run through late summer or early fall. With the evolution of quick shipping and air service, they will be bringing you the freshest Texas Gulf shrimp as well as oysters from Texas bays and estuaries. “Every Thursday morning a shipment will be delivered right to the back door of the restaurant,” said Goodnight Managing Partner Brook Hatchett. Step aside, Honey Boy Canned Pink Salmon!
“Shrimp Night has been a cherished tradition since its iconic beginnings at the Beehive, and when we brought it back at Goodnight Steakhouse, we knew we had big shoes to fill,” said Hatchett. She continues with a thank you to customers for their incredible support and enthusiasm in making Shrimp Night a resounding success from the start. “One of our proudest updates was offering a grilled shrimp option along with the traditional fried shrimp, and we’re thrilled that both have been equally popular with our customers. As we approach the next season of Thursday Shrimp Night, we’re excited to announce some changes.” said Hatchett.
She explains that this is not an all-you-can-eat situation. The restaurant will be introducing a lower price point, passing the savings directly to the customer. There will be ordering options by half pound and whole pound, appetizers, and assorted platters. “All you can eat shrimp might’ve bankrupted Red Lobster, but we won’t let that happen to Goodnights!” said Goodnight owner Jason Harlow.
As a nod to the area’s cowboy culture, there will be menu items such as the Outlaw, the Saloon Sampler, and the Ranchers Feast. These items include choices like; shrimp breaded and fried in Shiner Beer batter, grilled with a garlic lemon butter sauce, and boiled shrimp in a pot of herbs with lemon and garlic. New to shrimp night will be oysters on the half shell. There will be a slew of artisanal house made sauces to top off all your crustacean and mollusks dreams.
Hatchett adds that they are bringing back a fan-favorite feature, a self-serve salad bar. “We’re looking forward to serving you every Thursday with these exciting updates and continuing to make Shrimp Night a highlight of your week,” said Hatchett.
