Fandangle rehearsals underway

Fandangle practices began this week, and the next scheduled rehearsal will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25, at the Aztec Theater.

“I want to invite new people to Albany to experience Fandangle and invite Fandangle veterans to return,” said artistic director Lorna Ayers. “You will not be disappointed. This year’s show is going to be extra special, so I encourage everyone to not miss out.”

Ayers’ script this year will highlight the Matthews and Reynolds families, including John Matthews who, at 100 years old, is still a cast member and plays “The Old Timer.”

Also returning to the stage this year will be a few additional Old Timers who have not been in the show recently.

“I’ve asked several men who have ridden in the Fandangle in the past to join us for a special Old Timers scene,” said Ayers. “I already have commitments from some of those, including Bud Leech, Benny Peacock, Steve Riley, James Martin, and Harry Swedlund. Any others who are interested, please contact me.”

Ayers said that the first night of rehearsals was attended by a small but strong group.

“There were a lot of conflicts with the date, so that number will grow by next week,” she added.

Although livestock, wagons, and riders do not join the cast until the last few rehearsals, everyone else that wants to be in the Sampler and/or the summer shows is encouraged to come to every practice possible.

This year the Sampler will be at Fort Griffin Flat on Saturday, April 20. The summer shows will be at the Prairie Theater on June 21-22, and 28-29.
