Community meeting set to revive Moran History Museum
By Melinda L. Lucas
A meeting is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 14 for all those interested in helping preserve and restore the Moran History Museum, which is housed in the former First Christian Church.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Moran Community Center.
Committee member Aline McCormack said that there is a there is a renewed interest in revitalizing the museum, which was first established in the much smaller Rockwell Bros. lumber building with a large number of artifacts and documents about the history of the small community in the southeastern corner of Shackelford County. The museum was moved to the abandoned church in the 1980s.
“This long-hidden gem holds countless regional treasures and has been tucked away for years with many unaware of its existence,” McCormack said.
She added that there are three ways to help in the revitalization process, including providing funds for electricity and maintaining the buildings and exhibits, volunteering for a governing committee to clean the museum, as well as plan for the future, and donating new artifacts and collections to further preserve the history of the region.
