The Albany Lady Lions improved to 5-1 in district play Tuesday night with a four-set victory over the Roscoe Lady Plowgirls, winning 25-16, 25-15, 18-25, 25-16. The win keeps the Lady Lions near the top of the district standings with only two matches remaining before postseason play begins.

Thirteen teams competed in the annual PTO/Sam Tidwell Memorial Scholarship Tournament held this past weekend at Albany Golf Club.The event, which benefits the Albany PTO and the Sam Tidwell Memorial Scholarship, featured two flights of play with competitive scores across the board.

Kolby Wayne Hughes, son of Gary and Emily Hughes of Albany, Texas and Melinda and Delbert Smith of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on October 4, 2025. Kolby was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 1, 1997, graduated from Springtown High School and was employed by Amazon for the past 10 years.

The Albany High School Ragin’ Red Band returned from the Seymour Band Festival on Oct. 4 with a first division rating from all five judges, a milestone band director Jessica Watkins praised as a testament to the students’ focus and adaptability.
