Local churches begin fall activities

Albany churches and organizations haveafullslate of youth and children’s programs getting underway with the start of the new school year, most of which will begin in September. Some youth groups remained activeoverthesummer, but organized study groupswillbegininearnest in the next few weeks.

Albany ISD is right on track with 475 students registering for the 20242025 school year as anticipated. Thedistrict’senrollment wasbelowthe500markfor the second straight year, continuing a recent trend of declining numbers.

AISD budget, tax rate hearing set

$ During a regular meeting held Monday, the Albany ISD board of trustees set a special meeting for Friday, Aug. 30 to adopt a $7.6M proposed budget and set a tax rate which is actually three cents lower than last year’s rate.

STAAR test corrections reported

A few of the passing percentages provided by the school district that were reported last week were incorrect. The largest correction was in third grade math STAAR scores, which were initially reported as 31 percent.

Chamber decides on monthly lunch

The Albany Chamber of Commerce directors have voted to meet on the first Friday of each month rather than every Friday starting in September. Weekly luncheons at the Icehouse Restaurant will continue on the next three Fridays on Aug.

Citizens protest junk, dog issues

Overage charges to be billed to customers Aroom full of visitors at Monday’s Albany city council meeting weretheretoprotestacouple ofissues,includingjunkcarsand trash in one neighborhood and nuisance dogs in another. Later in the meeting, council members decided that the increasing number of charges because of over-stuffed trash containers should be passed on to local customers.
